What is a CCMS (Component Content Management System)?
One CCMS, or Component Content Management System, is a component content management software designed to produce and maintain the Technical documentation large scale. Management multilingual is based on connectors to computer-assisted translation tools (TAO), like Phrase or Trados. The translation memory is carried by these tools. The CCMS contribution is elsewhere: since the information only exists once, it is only translated once, and the platform specifically identifies the modified passages to be translated.
The technical standards of a CCMS
CCMS is based on formats XML Structured. Three standards dominate the market.
DocBook is an open standard historically used for technical and software documentation. It offers a rigorous structure while remaining accessible to writers without advanced XML expertise.
DITA(Darwin Information Typing Architecture), standardized by OASIS, imposes a strict typology of content and is suitable for highly standardized documentary environments.
S1000D is used in defence and aeronautics, where traceability requirements are highest.
The choice of an open standard is not a technical detail. It conditions the sustainability of the documentation content and the ability to change tools without losing its content.
Which organizations need a CCMS?
A CCMS becomes relevant when several factors combine: a large volume of documentation, frequent updates, repeated content between documents, multiple languages, multiple formats for dissemination, and compliance or traceability requirements.
The sectors involved are manufacturing, energy, health and medical devices, construction, software and communities. The user profiles are the Technical writers, design offices, quality managers and project managers.
